Hurling and Camogie

Hurling and Camogie

In Griffith Barracks, we have a huge interest in hurling and camogie, and we are very lucky to have lots of boys and girls taking part every week with great determination, skill and passion.

Camogie: After school every Monday for our Junior Team (2nd and 3rd class) and Senior Team (4th to 6th)
Hurling: After school every Thursday for our Junior Team (2nd and 3rd class) and Senior Team (4th to 6th)

At After School hurling and camogie, the hurlers and camogie players develop the necessary skills involved in the sport (ground striking, air striking, handpassing, catching, shooting for scores, tackling, soloing, Brick-Flicking, and more), as well as fostering teamwork, sportspersonship and a love for being active, through team bonding games such as relays, "Snatch the Bacon", rounders, and others.

Many of our hurlers and camogie players are new to the sport this year but have made great progress because of their efforts! Some have even started playing with our local club, Kevins. Anyone is welcome to join up and give it a go, so we would love to have newcomers at any time.

In this year's Cumann na mBunscoil competition, Griffith Barracks did extremely well. Our Senior Camogie team got to the semi-finals after winning all their games, but were narrowly defeated by 1 point to bring our year to an end. Well done to the girls on what was a fantastic year, full of great games where they represented their school with pride.

The Senior Boys Team qualified for Croke Park in the shield, so the school is represented again after the girls' winning exploits last year!

Senior Hurlers after their Semi Final. Roll on Croke Park!

Senior Camogie Team before their semi final. Hard luck girls!
