Important Information on COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

28th February 2020

A Chairde,

I wrote to the school community on Wednesday, 26th February with the latest information on the novel coronavirus nCoV-2019.

Below is a link to the latest letter from the Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health, which we have been asked to forward to you and which will also be circulated by email.

Below is some advice for answering questions from school-going children. Their worlds are very small and they're really most concerned with their parents, their siblings and their pets, so you want to reassure them the danger is not affecting them. The teachers will be working with them as always on good hygiene practices etc as well as operating the same child-focused approach to questions as below.

According to the HSE, these are the current affected areas:

  • China
  • South Korea
  • Singapore
  • Iran
  • Japan
  • Hong Kong
  • Italy – specifically these areas – Piedmont, Lombardia, Venito and Emilia Romagna

The advice is that any family returning from these areas must contact the Office of Public Health on 01 6352145 and also contact us before returning to school.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions,

Beir Bua,

Eddie
